We stopped for lunch, and so glad we did... The roaring fire was very inviting.. My husband ordered cod and chips which was lovely (so he said).. and I ordered the Chicken Supreme which was really tasty. The mushroom sauce was beautiful.. Real hearty good food... well worth a visit if you are in the area...
“Perfect setting, faultless meal”
We arrived at HSH on a freezing Friday evening 2nd Nov to a spacious car park and a glowing log fire inside.
This pub restaurant is the very definition of a classy English country inn. Beautifully individual and characterful. Not at all snobby, but absolutely warm and welcoming.
Our party made up of of two couples first had a pre-dinner drink at the bar. We immediately sensed the friendliness of both staff and locals. Our guests quickly commented what a beautiful place we had brought them to, and we all agreed how nice the greeting, setting and atmosphere were.
A little later we were seated and ready to look at the menu. We ordered a selection of starters and loved them. For mains, the two ladies chose cod loin, mash and peas. We two males picked lamb with Dauphinoise potatoes and kale. Once again we tucked into 4 delicious platefuls of faultlessly prepared food.
The contemporary menu showed about 6 choices for each course.
The lamb was sliced, tender and plentiful, as were the creamy gratinated potatoes. These came in a large neatly cut square. The moment after placing the plates on the table, our charming waiter returned with an extra jug of jus and mint sauce. Service with a smile and a joke all the way.
Needless to say there were oos and aahs as we tucked in. We finished off with desserts of lemon posset, bread and butter pudding (complete with an extra jug of creme Anglaise) and iced cream. All spot on.
We loved every bite of food, and being in a perfect venue.
So our thanks to HSH in Roke for a lovey evening. We will be back with more friends to enjoy your wonderful hospitality once again.
Four covers, starters, mains and desserts. Drinks with meal and pre-dinner £120 inclusive, Service is not added to bill and was at our discretion.
We all gave the experience 5 stars for venue, service, food and attention to detail.
We visited HSH for lunch today to celebrate my grandmothers birthday. Everything was perfect from start to finish. There is a fantastic choice of drinks and the service was incredibly warm and welcoming. There was a varied menu which I imagine would suit all tastes. Every bite of the food served was utterly delicious. I had the Chicken Supreme and haven't stopped thinking about how tasty it was as well as beautifully presented. Thankyou HSH - your pub is perfect in every way - will certainly be returning! :)
We ate here yesterday. The staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more accommodating. The open log fire helped to create a lovely atmosphere.
We aren't both gluten free and it was a delight to find a pub that had the options for gluten free sandwiches/ rolls. We had the steak with mushroom caramelised onion. Also other GF options available in the restaurant.
Great red wine served at the right temperature.
